Low Barns
Kids in the Country

About Us
After 10 years as a Primary School teacher, Sarah Newall realised that it was time for a new adventure, and so she has decided to bring her passions of farming, the outdoors and inspiring the younger generation together to create a unique educational experience, brand new to the North East. Visitors to Low Barns will notice that, despite being close to Hexham and Newcastle, it is incredibly peaceful and makes an ideal environment for learning about the outdoors with the variety of flora and fauna and many species of British Wildlife and insects. We are also in an excellent position to study rivers, with the North Tyne running along the bottom of the farm and Tyne Waters Meet only a short walk away. With ancient pasture, wildflower meadows, mixed woodlands and river banks, there are so many natural landscapes to explore.
Open solely for education settings, Low Barns Kids in the Country allows our visitors to learn all about British agriculture. Home to one of the first herds of Limousin Cattle in the UK and one of the largest flocks of Jacob Sheep, we can offer the ideal opportunity to learn how animals are cared for, the daily life of a farmer and how food gets from farm to fork. The farm ethos is heavily invested into conservation and protecting the natural habitats of the wildlife who call Low Barns home through the Countryside Stewardship Scheme. The scheme has allowed a natural, rewilded pond to be built, vital hedgerow corridors to be planted and ancient native trees to be protected. Through the Stewardship Scheme, Low Barns are able to welcome schools free of charge until October 2028 to take part in Curriculum Linked Days.
